The grape is invented. The pipeline that would sell it to you is not, and it is remarkably consistent.
It starts with a real result, usually a modest one. A compound is applied to cells in a dish, or fed to mice, and something measurable happens. This is ordinary, useful science. It is also very far from evidence that a human who eats a food containing that compound will experience anything at all. Dose, delivery, metabolism and the difference between a cell in a dish and a person in a body all sit between the two claims.
Hop one is the press release. A communications office needs the result to be interesting, and the hedges in the abstract are the first thing to go. Hop two is the aggregator, which is working from the release rather than the paper. Hop three is a content site optimizing for search, where the compound quietly becomes the food. Hop four is a product page, where the food becomes a capsule with a price.

There is a legal seam here that is worth understanding, because it explains the strange phrasing on supplement labels. In the United States, a marketer making a health claim must have what the Federal Trade Commission calls competent and reliable scientific evidence — in practice, human clinical evidence appropriate to the claim being made. That standard is why the packaging almost never says a product treats anything. Instead it says the product “supports” a system or “promotes” a function. Those structure-function claims sit beside a disclaimer noting the statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration, and that the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. That sentence is not boilerplate. It is the whole legal position of the product.

A single ingredient credited with a broad, vague benefit is the first signal. Real interventions tend to have narrow, boring effects on specific outcomes. A named villain — a toxin, an inflammation, a single hormone — is the second. A testimonial standing in for a trial is the third, and the most persuasive, because a story about one person is more memorable than a confidence interval about ten thousand.
The counter-move is not to become a scientist. It is to ask what kind of evidence exists, and to prefer the kind that has already done the aggregating for you. A systematic review — the sort the Cochrane Library publishes — gathers the trials on a question, weighs their quality, and reports what the body of evidence supports, including when the honest answer is that it supports very little. When a claim is real, that literature usually exists and is easy to find. When it does not exist, its absence is the finding.
None of this makes the grape less funny. It just means the funny part is the headline, and the expensive part is the checkout page three clicks later.
